Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is needed when the nerves inside the tooth becomes inflammed or infected. This is often caused by tooth decay and is unlikely to go away on its own. If left untreated the infection can spread to other teeth and gums so it is important to recieve root canal treatment when necessary. 

What will treatment involve?

• First your dentist will numb the tooth to make sure you do not feel anything during the treatment. 
• Your dentist will place a protective rubber covering around the tooth to isolate it which stops any small intruments such as files from falling into your mouth. 
• Your dentist will then use a drill top access the nerve space, find the canals and remove the nurves with a small file. After this they will shape the canals to be filled and clean them to reomve any bacteria. 
• Once the canals are shaped and clean they will fill them with a rubber material and seel the tooth with either a filling or crown. 
• This treatment can take up to 2 hours depending on the complexity and number of canals in the tooth.
