Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)

What is GBT?

GBT is a comprehensive, structured protocol that focuses on the systematic removal of biofilm (the bacterial layer on teeth and gums), and it emphasizes prevention, maintenance, and personalized care. It uses a combination of diagnostic tools and dental equipment, such as the Airflow device, to clean and treat the teeth and gums.

Airflow is a specific tool used within the GBT protocol, consisting of a device that uses air, water, and a fine powder (glycine or erythritol) to remove plaque, stains, and biofilm from the tooth surface. It is a non-invasive and gentle method for cleaning teeth.

What to expect

GBT consists of 8 defined steps:

  1. Assess: Every appointment starts with a full assessment of the teeth and gum health. You’ll also get an oral cancer screening at every visit.
  2. Disclose: Using a dye makes biofilm visible, highlighting any problematic areas and guiding the cleaning. No more dye = no more biofilm.
  3. Motivate: Based on your needs and preferences, you’ll then received a tailored oral hygiene routine to maximse your home care.
  4. AirFlow: Using a combination of warm water, air and fine powder biofilm, stains and early calculus are gently removed from the teeth and gums.
  5. Piezon: Using warm water and pain-free technology, deposits are removed from the teeth quietly and gently.
  6. Perioflow: Same as ‘Airflow’ but the specially designed nozzle cleans deeper into gum pockets.
  7. Check: One last check to ensure that your mouth is clean before you leave.
  8. Recall: Based on your needs, set your next appointment.
